MIZON HYALURONIC ACID 100 REVIEW

It’s the K-Beauty staple with hundreds of 5 star reviews – but what exactly makes this hyaluronic acid serum so good?

Today, we’re giving you our Mizon Hyaluronic Acid 100 review, exploring why so many beauty lovers consider this an absolute must-have staple in their daily routines.

WHAT IS IT?

Mizon Hyaluronic Acid 100. It’s a hyaluronic acid serum containing 50% hyaluronic acid, with a mix of other humectants, antioxidants, emollients and skin conditioning agents.

WHAT DOES IT CLAIM TO DO?

Mizon claims that its serum is “lightweight, silky, and fast-absorbing” and “ideal for all skin types, working to prevent moisture loss to keep skin hydrated from the inside out.”

WHAT’S IN IT?

Mizon Hyaluronic Acid 100 contains:

“Water, Sodium Hyaluronate, Copper Tripeptide-1, Butylene Glycol, Sclerotium Gum, 1,2-octanediol, Ethylhexyl-glycerin, Tropolone, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Carppyl/capric Triglyceride,Hydrogenated Lecithin, Stearic Acid, C12-c20alkyl Glucoside, C13-22 Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Cholesteryl Hydroxystearate, Cholesterol, Ceramide 3, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Betula Platpyhlla Japonica Juice, Portaluca Oleracea Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract, Amica Montana Flower Extract, Artemisia Absinthium Extract, Achillea Millefolium Extract, Gentiana Lutea Root Extract, Rubus Idaeus (Rasberry) Fruit Extract, Beta-Glucan, Adenosine, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Disodium EDTA”

The star ingredient – hyaluronic acid – is an extremely popular ingredient in Korea (and globally). Making up 50% of the formula,  it is known for its ability to add long-lasting hydration back into the skin. A lightweight, silky, and fast-absorbing ingredient, it is ideal for all skin types, but especially dry skin. Hyaluronic acid is capable of holding up to 1000 times its own weight in water, it also promotes blood circulation and nutrient absorption. It’s the same ingredient used in cosmetic dermal fillers, such as lip filler.

True to its promise to deliver a hydration boost to the skin, the formula also contains ceramides (aka fat molecules) that help the skin retain moisture and allow for proper function. They work to strengthen the skin’s barrier and prevents moisture loss.

Tropolone has an antioxidant and antibacterial activity, while also working as a preservative in the formula.

Raspberry extract acts as an antioxidant that protects the skin from free radical damage, while Copper tripeptide-1, hydrogenated lecithin and cholesterol improve skin’s elasticity.

HOW DO YOU USE IT?

This product can be applied multiple different ways. If using it as a serum, apply it after your cleanser, toner, and essence. Simply pat it into the skin using upward and outward motions until it is fully absorbed. Follow up with your regular moisturiser.

You can also combine 1-2 drops of this into your moisturiser and then apply it to your face. This provides a rich layer of hydration that’s perfect for your nighttime routine

WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY DO?

After using this ampoule consistently in our daily routines we noticed:

1 Skin that’s more supple, hydrated and youthful looking

2 An overall plumping effect

3 A reduction in redness (particularly in sensitive skin)

In a nutshell; this little ampoule supercharges your other skincare. It is very versatile and can either be used by itself or by combining a drop of two with your other serums, facial oils, or moisturisers to kick your hydration levels up a few notches. The formula really comes into its own in dry environments and winter months.

As one reviewer put it:

“This serum is perfect in consistency, not too thick and not too thin. Due to the ideal consistency it absorbs into the skin in quickly whilst providing ultimate hydration. When I use this serum I notice a difference in my skin in that it’s more bouncy to touch and my makeup does not fade away during the day. My skin also has a beautiful sheen to it when I use this serum. I have dehydrated, dry skin and I find this product perfect for my skin.”

WHO SHOULD USE IT

This serum is a match made in heaven for people with dry skin, fine lines, wrinkles or mature skin.

WHO SHOULD AVOID IT

Unfortunately this is one to avoid if you suffer from fungal acne, as the serum’s stearic acid, glyceryl stearate and PEG-100 stearate do not play nicely with this skin type.

It also contains butylene glycol, so if this is a trigger ingredient this won’t be your perfect match.

FINAL VERDICT?

If you’re looking for a hyaluronic acid serum that delivers on its promises and won’t break the bank then this K-Beauty favourite is definitely worthy of a place in your beauty cabinet.
