Dupe: Srb Enzyme Wash And Tatcha

Thanks to their low-foaming lather with a touch of customizable grittiness, enzyme powder washes are gaining popularity. Unlike ordinary cleansers, which usually have water as their first ingredient, because powder washes contain no water, they go much further than their liquid counterparts. They are perfect for travel, as they’re less likely to squirt everywhere in your bag.

Because they’re dry, it takes a very long time for these multi-tasking cleansers to go bad, as bacteria and mould have a difficult time growing in them.

Rice Based Cleansers

The concept of a rice-based cleanser is not new in Korean Beauty, having been inspired by the practice of “rice washing” in Korea. This method was originally used by the women of the palaces who would wait on the King. They used rice water to keep their skin looking healthy and fair, as rice water is known to be a natural brightening agent.

SRB Stabilized Rice Bran Enzyme Powder Wash is based off this time-honoured Korean tradition of rice washing for brighter, clearer, cleaner skin. So let’s take a look at it:

SRB Rice Bran Enzyme Powder Face Wash

SRB’s Rice Bran Enzyme Powder Face Wash is a pH 5.5 balanced cleanser that is free from mineral oil and parabens.

While other powder washes use a rice flour based formula, SRB features rice bran extract, which creates a soothing effect on skin. Rice bran extract contains the nutrients and enzymes that provide this cleanser with its anti-inflammatory and nourishing properties.

The other key ingredient is papain, an enzyme found in papaya. The formula is rounded out by collagen, allantoin, and aloe juice, which help to hydrate, soothe and brighten skin.

While SRB runs more expensive than Tosowoong’s Enzyme Powder Wash(which is coincidentally also a dupe for Dermalogica’s Daily Micro Exfoliant!) it is significantly cheaper than Tatcha’s Rice Polish Enzyme Powder.

Let’s a take a look at Tatcha:

Tatcha Rice Polish Classic Enzyme Powder

Tatcha’s enzyme cleansers have developed a dedicated fan base, thanks to their gentle, skin-tertainment worthy formulas.

Tatcha’s “classic” formula, which is the closest to SRB is also based on rice bran and papaya extracts. The similarities don’t end there – both formulas are pH 5.5 balanced, and based on amino acids. They are similarly free from parabens or mineral oil. Tatcha even has the same story about Japanese women having cleansed with rice water for centuries!

There are some differences though – Tatcha’s formula has a few extras in it that aren’t in the SRB formulation like green tea and algae. These are unlikely to make a material difference to the product’s cleansing abilities.

SRB’s formula notably does contain fragrance, albeit as the last ingredient. It includes sulphate detergents, which Tatcha’s product skips out on.

Both are designed to be used as Step 2 in the double cleanse method.

Bottom Line

While there are some differences between the two product formulations (and packaging – #letsbehonest Tatcha is hard to beat there), these are similar products.
