Today we’re reviewing a barrier-repairing moisturising cream from one of Korea’s hottest up-and-coming brands. If you follow Asian Beauty bloggers on Instagram, chances are you will have come across the brand before – iUNIK.
iUNIK is trending at the moment thanks to its range of sleek, minimalist skincare products that are being favourably compared to COSRX.
If your skin barrier is damaged or in need of repair, this super-charged Beta Glucan Daily Moisture Cream is designed for you.
iUNIK Beta Glucan Daily Moisture Cream is a moisturiser from iUNIK that promises to brighten skin, offer wrinkle care and fortify the skin’s barrier. It’s jam-packed full of natural extracts and skin brightening ingredients, including Beta Glucan, Niacinamide, Arginine, Allantoin, Centella Asiatica and more.
iUNIK Beta Glucan Daily Moisture Cream is perfect for those with dry, sensitive skin, or other skin types who have a compromised skin barrier.
If you’re wondering what a compromised skin barrier look’s like, the answer is “not pretty”.
The skin’s barrier is it’s outer-most layer, and the first line of defence. The barrier can be weakened through the use of incompatible skincare products (i.e the wrong pH or too harsh), by over-exfoliating or through exposure to harsh environments and pollution.
Once the barrier is weak, it is open to bacteria, including acne, as well as increased sensitivity.
Luckily, iUNIK’s Beta Glucan Cream has no fragrance added to it, so it won’t further irritate already-fragile skin.
The cream can be used night and day.
If you’re using it in the morning, try to apply it 20 minutes before your sunscreen, to give it time to sink it.
If you’re using it at night, you can use it after your serum, right before you sleep.
If your skin is particularly dry, you could even layer this cream underneath an even thicker occlusive like a sleeping cream.
The star ingredient is a natural extract called Beta Glucan, which is derived from mushrooms and has antioxidant properties. It’s a known skin-soothing agent, making it ideal for sensitive skin. Beta-glucan is considered great for improving the look of redness and other signs of sensitivity. Unlike humectants (water-binding ingredients), which attract water to the skin, Beta Glucan acts like an occlusive, by trapping any existing moisture within the skin.
Other key ingredients include Centella Asiatica Extract and Aloe Vera Leaf Powder, which work together to help soothe and protect sensitive skin, as well as niacinamide for brightening, plums, raspberries, peaches, pomegranates and figs to help revitalize skin.
Despite it’s heavier appearance, the cream is quite lightweight when you apply it. It won’t clog your pores, which is a massive plus if your skin is dry but acne prone.
The formula is soothing and hydrating and definitely offers a subtle brightening benefit. In a nutshell, it makes the skin look plump and full.
This is a great daily moisturiser and would work well even on oilier skin types, as it’s not overly heavy.
Having used it for over a month, we can definitely see where the COSRX comparisons come in, as the formula is divine, the price point is great value for money and the product delivers.
