Vitamin E – Skincare Hero
While Vitamin E is a vitamin, a more technical and skincare-specific definition would be that Vitamin E is a group of oil-soluble antioxidants. Of these antioxidants, you’re most likely to find alpha-tocopherol and Tocopheryl acetate in your skincare products.
As with many other skincare antioxidants, Vitamin E helps to defend your skin against free radicals, which most of us deal with through external environmental factors. These can be things like UV from sunlight and urban pollution. Vitamin E can also assist with:
- Anti-ageing;
- Evening your skin tone;
- Smoothing out your skin;
- Reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Beyond these benefits, Vitamin E is also great for skin barrier care and repair. This hero ingredient works at the cellular level to strengthen your skin and make it more resilient against outside nasties.
Is Vitamin E Suitable For Me?
Vitamin E is perfect for those with extremely dry or mature skin, because it offers tons of hydration. While it can do a lot of good though, Vitamin E may not be for everyone.
If you have oily or acne-prone skin, Vitamin E might be a little too heavy and can lead to clogged pores.
This isn’t to say that you should avoid Vitamin E altogether if this sounds like your skin type. As with all things, it’s all about the dose – we always recommend patch testing before fully applying. As long as you’re using a product with the right concentration for your skin, you can still get all the great benefits of Vitamin E.
