Korean Cleansing Balms
Here’s everything you need to know about them and why.
If there’s one thing we’ve all heard about Korean skin care it’s that there are a lot of ‘steps’. But never fear because today we will be starting at the very beginning, which we’ve heard it’s a very good place to start.
Your skincare routine should always begin with a great cleansing balm or oil.
Why?
Not only are they extremely gentle and nourishing (perfect for all skin types), they are essential in ensuring that your face is thoroughly cleaned. Without a properly cleansed face, all of the other amazing skincare that you’ve invested in won’t have the chance to absorb and work as effectively. Sounds wasteful huh?
We agree. So let’s get cleansing.
Cleansing balms make up the first half of the double cleanse process. These beauties go on as a solid balm before gently melting into a silky oil once on the skin. Acting as a magnet, they effortlessly dissolve all makeup and other oils (including sunscreen). They also help to remove excess sebum, impurities and accumulated dirt.
A chance to finally ditch those drying and irritating makeup pads and swap to a gentle makeup removing balm that soothes your skin as it works? We're listening.
Here are some of our favourite skin cleansing balms at STYLE STORY:
The Subi Bare Skin Balm is the stuff of texture dreams. Not only is the shiny holo packaging sure to make your gram, this K-Beauty meets A-Beauty product has some beautiful homegrown ingredients. Anti-oxidant rich Australian Lemon Myrtle helps tighten pores, reduce irritation and has antibacterial properties. This is combined with dreamy Sea Buckthorn Oil and Vitamin E, making it one of our favourite balms on the market.
It’s also paired perfectly with the Subi Brightening Powder Cleanser. These two will leave your skin so clean and ready for that K Beauty glassy look.
Heimish's All Clean Balm is a dermatologist tested product that proves that a little goes a long way. Not only will you get great longevity from this product but it’s filled with some seriously hydrating and soothing ingredients. With coconut extract, shea butter and and citrus herb oil, this balm will nourish the skin. It also protects it from water loss all while removing even the most stubborn of mascara.
For a cheap and cheerful cleansing balm, we love the Beauty Of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm. Powered by natural hanbang (traditional Korean herbal medicine) ingredients, its nutrient-rich rice water and fermented grains help skin retain moisture and offer brightening benefits.
We personally love that this balm comes with a little bit of history! It incorporates fermentation technology from Korean’s Joseon Dynasty which was the royal court era (a 500 year period beginning in the 14th century). As with the other balms above, this one also comes with its own spatula for easy application.
And finally we have one of the original K Beauty crowd favourites the Banila Co Clean It Zero Original!
This best-selling sorbet soft formula contains anti-oxidants galore! Papaya extract works to naturally exfoliate and smooth your skin. Vitamin C rich areola extract helps to brighten skin. Plus, this balm is made without any parabens, alcohol or artificial colouring.
