The Korean Double Cleanse Method

The Korean Double Cleanse Method

The Korean Beauty Routine differs from a typical western skincare routine and one of the steps in the routine that stands out is the double cleanse.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Korean double cleanse method (and how to do it!)

What Is It?

The Korean Double Cleansing Method is a two-step process that involves washing your face with an oil-based cleanser, followed by a water-based one.

Using two different cleansers at night is designed to remove makeup, dirt and build-up for cleaner, softer, and smoother skin. It can also assist with the prevention and spread of blemishes.

Step 1: Oil Based Cleanser

The Korean Double Cleanse Method starts with an oil based cleanser, applied to dry skin.

The cleanser can be in solid or liquid form and is used to remove oil-based impurities and water resistant makeup. It gently draws out debris and pollutants without the need for harsh scrubbing or tugging at the skin, which isn’t great for your pores.

Cleansing oils are perfect for all skin types, as they work with the natural oils in your skin. Unlike other types of cleansers, they also don’t sink into your pores or strip your skin, which leaves it dried out.

First Cleansers We Love

Subi Bare Skin Balm

Free from artificial colours and fragrances, this sherbet-like cleansing balm is designed to provide a deep cleanse no matter your skin type.  Bare Skin Balm combines antioxidant-rich Australian Lemon Myrtle with dreamy Sea Buckthorn Oil to melt away makeup, sunscreen and excess sebum while keeping your skin nourished.

APLB Blackout Cleansing Oil

Combining luxe avocado oil, macadamia seed oil and salicylic acid with a nutrient enriched black food complex, APLB Blackout Perfect Cleansing Oil is the perfect option for skin that becomes easily sensitized, red or clogged with impurities.

Step 2: Water-based Cleanser

As a second step, Koreans follow up with a water-based cleanser.

The water-based cleanser can be either foaming or non-foaming, and is used to remove water-based residue including sweat and dirt. This cleanse draws out water-based debris and cleanses your face a second time to penetrate your skin for deeper cleanse.
