K-Beauty Basics
Today we’re looking at the K-Beauty basics – the ingredients to look out for, as well as the cult skincare and makeup to add to your wishlist, pronto!
If you’ve never tried Korean Beauty products before, it can be hard to know where to start. With so many cult-classicproducts, picking some is like falling down the rabbit’s den.
K-beauty is famous for some innovative ingredients that you might not have heard of in western beauty before. Some of our favourites are:
Snail Secretion Filtrate– don’t be put off by the name – snail mucin extract is just the trail of the snail (not the snail itself!). This is a star beauty ingredient that contains skin-friendly antioxidants, proteins, elastin, and glycolic acids. It effectively repairs sun damage and is especially helpful for acne, uneven skin tone and acne scarring.
Galactomyces – aka fermented yeast extract – is a by-product of the alcohol fermentation process. It nourishes, tones and moisturises skin.
Propolis – extracted from bee’s pollen, propolis is effective against ageing and inflammatory skin conditions. It stimulates cellular renewal and the synthesis of collagen and elastin for firmer, more toned skin.
Sea Buckthorn – also known the Vitamin tree, this is a small berry bursting with Vitamin C. It’s great for skin brightening and antioxidants.
Centella Asiatica – AKA Cica – a plant extract that has been used in Asian beauty products for thousands of years. Thanks to its ability to repair wounds and heal skin, it is very popular in skin soothing cosmetics.
While it may be tempting to buy every Korean Beauty product in sight – resist the urge until you’ve figured out which products your skin likes!
Our favourite products to try include:
Subi Perfect Pimple Patch – Say goodbye to pesky pimples! Made with medical-grade hydrocolloid, this luxury pimple patch is the thinnest, most invisible patch on the market. If you get pimples in hard-to-reach places (like the side of the nose or around your mouth) then these are your patches. The thinness, stickiness and absorptive powers of Subi’s patches means they stay in place long enough to effectively tackle the pimples that other patches can’t.
Tosowoong Spot Whitening Vita Clinic Cream – Packed full of brightening Sea Buckthorn fruit extracts to lighten up dull skin tone, pigmentation, melasma and more. The beautifully thick texture imparts instant hydration to the skin, filling it with vitamins and minerals.
APLB Derma Daily Repair Cream – Harnessing the power of peptides plus skin brightening niacimamide, hydrating sodium hyaluronate and wrinkle-fighting ceramides, this intensive daily repair skin is just what the dermatologist ordered for dry, dull, lacklustre, sensitive and aging skin.
Korean makeup combines its legendary skincare properties with makeup, to ensure your skin is hydrated, smoothed and soothed rather than just masking any problems.
Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream – this BB Cream is not only STYLE STORY Australia’s top selling BB Cream; it is also a world best-seller, with more than 30 million units sold worldwide!
Skin79 BB Cream– Known for its ability to cover flaws, brighten skin and prevent oiliness, this cult-favourite BB Cream was responsible for launching the BB Cream craze globally!
