This essence has achieved cult status and is basically a hydrating facial in a sturdy 100ml pump bottle.

So, if you're not too familiar with this category of skincare, COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is what Koreans call an "essence".

Essences are designed to deliver high doses of active ingredients deep into the skin. There are heaps of different types of Korean beauty essences, so you can customise them to suit your skin. If you've got different skin concerns at different times of the year, you can swap your essences around. 

In the case of COSRX's Snail Mucin Essence, the brand claims that it "promotes skin renewal, helps to repair acne, and replenishes nutrients to damaged skin."

Like other Korean essences, this one is designed to be used after you cleanse and tone your face but before you apply your serums and moisturises.

What Results Will You Notice From Using It?

If you have a damaged skin barrier or breakouts, snail mucin essence will assist in restoring the skin.

I found it was also effective for acne scarring, photo damage and uneven skin tone. This is because snail secretion filtrate contains high concentrates of antioxidants, proteins, and elastins.

The key ingredient is Snail Secration Filtrate, which is considered a wonder beauty ingredient thanks to to its skin-friendly components. This product is formulated with 96% of Snail Secretion Filtrate, hence the name.  

Betaineis a gentle hydrating ingredient that also naturally occurs in skin and the body. It’s known as an osmolyte, an ingredient that helps skin adapt to moisture losses and gains, essentially working to balance hydration.

Another addition includes Allantoin. This is a natural ingredient extracted from the root of the comfrey plant. It is considered to be a non-irritating ingredient that soothes and protects the skin. 

It is free from ingredients like parabens, sulphates and alcohol.  

 

 

What Results Did You Notice While Using It?

The biggest results I noticed after incorporating COSRX's Snail Mucin Power Essence into my skincare routine was a healthier overall complexion. My skin looked more hydrated and soft and wasn't as prone to drying out. 

For those reasons alone I found myself reaching for it whenever my skin was feeling sensitive and reactive. 

 

Final Verdict?

This is one of my top K-Beauty products and a go to essence when my skin is sensitive. Snail secretion filtrate is so gentle, and its skin restoring properties are amazing. Like a lot of other people, I was a bit unsure about using ‘snail jizz’ on my face, but it turns out I've been seriously missing out!

Jokes aside this product is a worldwide best seller for a reason and is a great addition to any routine.
