Yuja in Skincare

K-Beauty is full of “food for the skin”, from rice to mugwort, berries and more. Plenty of Korean skincare products contain edible ingredients.

One hot ingredient we’re seeing everywhere in Seoul lately is skin-brightening, Vitamin C-packed Yuja (a type of Korean citrus fruit).

If you’re curious about it, here’s what you need to know about Yuja in skincare.

What Is It?

Yuja is a type of citrus fruit that’s popular in Korea and other parts of Eastern Asia.

In Japan, it’s commonly referred to as “Yuzu.” It’s been used medicinally and as a skincare ingredient in Asian beauty products for centuries.

It’s known to help soothe and soften dry, irritated skin, and the refreshing scent makes it perfect for fruit oils. Koreans also drink it as a sweet, comforting tea — Yuja-cha (유자차).

Why Is It A Good Skincare Ingredient?

Packed full of naturally occurring Vitamin C compounds, Yuja is an ideal skin-brightening ingredient. It’s perfect for those dealing with dullness, post-acne marks and the look of dark spots.

It’s also valued for its antioxidant profile, which is helpful for supporting skin exposed to daily environmental stress.

Routine tip: If you’re using a Yuja/Vitamin-C style product, pair it with daily sunscreen. That’s where the “brightening” results tend to look their best.

Who Should Use Yuja?

Yuja can be a great fit if you:

  1. Look oily on the surface, but feel dehydrated underneath
  2. Are concerned about dull-looking skin or dark spots
  3. Want more glow
  4. Want to hydrate and brighten at the same time

Quick note: If you’re sensitive to Vitamin C products, introduce slowly and patch test, especially if you’re also using retinoids or acids.

TL;DR
