Founder Lauren Lee spoke to Elle on why Korean Beauty serums are hero-products in any skincare routine.
Elle reporter Erin Cook noted:
“For a long time, France and Japan were considered the King and Queen of cosmetics. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Korea burst onto the scene with innovative, skin-changing formulas. If you’re after a bright, glowy complexion (who isn’t?) a K-beauty vitamin C serum will sort you out.”
STYLE STORY Founder Lauren Lee confirmed:
“Vitamin C serums are one of the key steps in the typical Korean beauty routine and for good reason —with their free-radical fighting properties and capacity to help produce collagen naturally, they pack a punch.”
Vitamin C has many great benefits to the skin, including increased moisture retention and hydration, improvement in active breakouts, antioxidant and anti-ageing properties and increased collagen production. Vitamin C also provides the skin with a brightening effect that can reduce and improve the appearance of pigmentation from sun damage and post-acne scars.
Our two favourite Vitamin C serums from Korea – both of which were featured in Elle – include It’s Skin Power 10 VC Effector and Vlancvere Power VC15 Ample:
This brightening serum contains vitamin C and green tea components to brighten and prevent skin from looking dull.
This K-Beauty favourite serum contains 15% Vitamin C—the perfect amount to see visible signs of the skin brightening without irritating sensitive skin. It also assists with fading post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation, redness and post-blemish scars.
1. If you are using Retinols at night, use your Vitamin C serum in the morning to avoid interaction.
2. If you have never used a Vitamin C serum before, introduce this product to your routine slowly, starting off twice a week and building up to daily use.
3. Store your Vitamin C serum in the fridge to prevent it from oxidising too quickly. The serum will start to oxidise about 3 months after opening, rendering it less effective.
The effectiveness of Vitamin C is pH dependent.
Put simply, this means that if the pH of your skin is too high or low, the Vitamin C serum won’t be as ineffective.
To get the most out of your Vitamin C serum, use it directly after cleansing and wait 20 to 30 minutes before starting the next step in your skincare routine. To avoid these wait times, use a pH adjusting toner straight after cleansing.
