Jeju Island is famous for its natural wonders – a lush landscape filled with volcanic-ash infused soil, camellia, green tea, red ginseng and horse oil, just to name a few.
Its association with cleanliness and purity is well deserved, and this UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the least polluted areas in the world!
It’s no wonder then, that Jeju has some of the best natural ingredients on offer in Korea, and that Korean Beauty companies are all over them, too.

Must-Try Beauty Ingredients from Jeju Island 1 Volcanic Scoria
Probably the most well known ingredient to hail from Jeju, volcanic scoria has a myriad of skin-loving properties that will leave skin tighter, firmer and blemish free.
What is it?
This substance is formed straight from volcanic lava that has cooled and hardened after a volcanic eruption. This makes it quite rare!
What does it do?
It is able to absorb sebum and oil in the skin very effectively, and can wash away impurities lodged within pores without drying out the skin. This gives you an ideal skin texture and leaves skin feeling clean and fresh.
Must-Try Beauty Ingredients from Jeju Island 2 Camellia
This (beautiful!) plant is high in naturally-occurring antioxidants, as it thrives in harsh local surroundings and weather.
What does it do?
It is a popular skincare and haircare ingredient, evoking strength and vitality as it penetrates deep into the skin and promotes cell growth (vitamins A, B, D and E included)
Its oil (extract) is easily absorbed and is non-greasy, which makes it a perfect moisturising ingredient. In addition to this, it keeps skin supple as its high composition of oleic fatty acids ensures that it acts as an effective emollient.
Must-Try Beauty Ingredients from Jeju Island 3 Green Tea
Not just a drink, green tea has long been proven to have great anti-inflammatory properties, making it a calming and cooling ingredient that leaves skin feeling smooth, supple and deeply hydrated.
Jeju’s lush harvest of green tea has a unique quality due to its volcanic zone being located among mountains and seawater.
The presence of catechins, (a type of polyphenol), deactivates free radicals in the skin, which helps with the signs of ageing.
Who should use it?
Those with sensitive or irritable skin types will find this a hydrating must-have in their skincare routine! It also has wonderful de-puffing qualities when used in eye products too.
