K-Beauty’s latest obsession is so luxe it has to be tried to be believed.
Truffles (and white truffles in particular) are popping up all over Korea’s latest crop of luxury skincare products. But do you need them in your routine?
In case you need additional prodding, here’s why the answer is a resounding “yes!”
Found in the Italian region of Piedmont in Northern Italy, white truffles (or Trifola d’Alba Madonna as they are known in Italian) are locally known as ‘diamonds in the ground’. The rarest in the world, these truffles cost a fortune (in the region of $10,000 to $15,000 AUD for less than half a kilo) because they are almost impossible to cultivate. Not only are they hard to find, they’re also becoming increasingly harder to grow. They only stay in season from late October through December but global warming has made fewer white truffles available each year, making them a true rarity.
The reason white truffles are so in demand in skincare is thanks a special enzyme called “Superoxide Dismutase” which helps to repair damaged skin, while preventing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles at the same time. In skincare products, white truffles serve as an anti-inflammatory and anti-aging agent.
Considered a ‘super food’ for skin, they are filled with numerous minerals and vitamins. Its rich Vitamin C content makes white truffle a powerful brightening ingredient, as does Vitamin B12, which targets dark spots, uneven skin tone, dullness and redness.
White truffle also gives a healthier complexion by repairing dry, itchy, and irritated patches.
