iUNIK Tea Tree Relief Toner Review

iUNIK Tea Tree Relief Toner Review

Today on the blog we’re taking a look at one of the signature products from the K-Beauty brand currently taking over everybody’s Instagram feeds – it’s iUNIK’s Tea Tree Relief Toner.

If you have oily skin, suffer from blemishes or are a massive fan of LJH’s Tea Tree Essence Oil, read on because we may just have found your next skincare match!

What Is It?

This is a new toner from K-Beauty label iUNIK that is especially made for sensitive, oily and acne-prone skin types.

The three key ingredients are tea tree (67%), centella asiatica (20%) and portulaca extract, which are supposed to soothe the skin, assist with reducing redness, moisturising and nourishing. There’s a heap of other goodies in the giant 200ml bottle as well, which we’ll take a look at below.

For those of you watching your acidity levels, iUNIK’s Tea Tree Toner has a pH level of around 6.5.

How Do You Use It?

This toner is quite versatile, and can be used several ways:

To use it as an extra step in your cleansing, simply soak some on a cotton pad and wipe it across your face.

If you want to use it more for moisturising, it’s perfect for the 7 Skins Method, so apply it with your hands and pat it in as many times as you can until your skin feels lightly hydrated. You may not need all 7 skins, but there’ll be no issue applying it 7 times if you do!

Alternatively, you can actually use it similarly to a face mask. All you need to do is moisten several cotton pads with the toner and pop it onto your face for 15 – 20 minutes. While this might seem like a waste of toner, a little product goes a long way and the bottle is huge, so you’ll still have plenty left.

What’s In It?

The formula is this toner’s strong point – it’s filled with some really great soothing ingredients and leaves out heaps of nasty ones.

The key ingredient, Tea Tree (67%), is fabulous for reducing redness and soothing skin. It’s also a great ingredient for acne-prone skin.

Centella Asiatica (20%) (also known as Cica) has been used in Asia for centuries to assist with repairing the skin. Its three main components increase collagen and are believed to assist in promoting cell proliferation.

Another plant extract, portulaca, has excellent cleansing and skin-soothing effects, again making it ideal for red skin.

One interesting addition to the formula is a combination that iUNIK refers to as “six sprouts” – this is a mix of broccoli, wheat, alfafa, radish, rapeseed and cabbage, all of which contain organic nutrients, vitamins, minerals and enzymes that are supposed to protect the skin from the environment.

Niacinamide and licorice root are included for brightening, and glycerin and allantoin make an appearance to moisturise and soften the skin.

What Results Will You Notice Using It?

The first thing I noticed when I put it on was that I felt a little twinge on the areas where I had blemishes – it didn’t hurt or anything, it was just a small sensation. I assumed that this was the formula going to work on these spots and I was right – every time after using the toner on acne, pimples and breakouts the spot was visibly less red by the next day.

Tea tree is an astringent, and I noticed a nice pore tightening effect after using it. There is a veeeery faint smell of tea tree, which I personally really enjoyed (but YMMV).

I personally suffer from dry, sensitive skin that is prone to breakouts, and found this toner worked really well for my skin type, even though iUNIK recommends it for oily and sensitive skin types.

The formula is so natural and gentle that I can easily say it’s one of the best I’ve tried for my skin in a while. I plan to keep using it, especially when I’m experiencing breakouts.

Who Should Use It?

1 Anyone looking for a good astringent toner that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils or dry it out.

2 Fans of LJH’s Tea Tree Essence Oil.

3 Anyone suffering from breakouts.

4 Those who suffer from an imbalance of oil and moisture in the skin.

Anyone Who Shouldn’t Use It?

Unlike the iUNIK Tea Tree Relief Serumin the same line (which has no discernible smell), this Toner does have a very faint tea tree smell. If natural scents like tea tree aren’t your thing, this might be one to avoid.

Final Verdict - iUNIK Tea Tree Relief Toner Review?

This is a fantastic toner to incorporate into your daily routine if you’re suffering from blemishes, breakouts, oily or acne-prone skin.

You can actually feel the toner going to work on any red spots, not to mention see the results after using it.

As tea tree can be a little sensitising, this may not be the best toner if you’ve completely ruined your skin’s barrier or are recovering from over-exposure to the sun. In that case, I would opt for something with aloe vera or propolis instead. Luckily, iUNIK has one of those as well!
