Episode Summary:

What Can I Do For My Skin If I Didn't Get Any Sleep? Here are my top tips:

Fake a Good Night's Sleep Tip 1: Korean Facial Massage

It’s an uphill battle to fake a good night’s sleep when you haven’t had one but my go-to is a Korean facial massage technique to drain the lymph nodes.

Sleep deprivation has a detrimental effect on our lymph nodes. To kick start them again, a lymphatic massage on the face and neck can help.

Start with a clean face and grab a facial oil or aloe vera gel.

My favourites are ISNTree’s Watery Beauty OilandInnisfree Aloe Revital Soothing Gel.

How to Do a Lymphatic Massage

  1. Apply the product over your face and all the way down your neck.
  2. Then, divide your face in two and work your hands outwards towards your ears as you massage.
  3. Bring your hands down your neck to your collarbone. The aim is to massage your lymph nodes, which run down your neck, and around the underneath of your chin leading up to your ears.
  4. You should actually be able to feel a change in the rhythm of your lymph after this massage.

Why do we look terrible when we’re tired?

It’s because a lack of sleep is stressful to the body.

The skin in particular does the majority of its repairing at night, which is why it is so important to be asleep during the skin’s “golden time”, between around 10pm to 2am.

Fake a Good Night's Sleep Tip 2: Increase Your Circulation

Hydrogels under your eyes can definitely make you feel better and they can help to brighten dark circles and hydrate the skin. Heimish makes an eco-friendly option that can be dissolved in hot water after use. As does Benton.

Heimish just released new Matcha Biome Hydrogelas well.

  1. Firstly, tea bags are another good option because of the tannin and caffeine content.
  2. Secondly, to reduce puffy skin you need to increase circulation to the face. You can do this by washing your face with cold rather than hot water to help stimulate blood flow.
  3. Finally, if you’re really game you can even try dunking your face in a bowl of ice water for 5 – 10 minutes when you wake up. This will also help get rid of puffiness.

Fake a Good Night's Sleep Tip 3: Reduce Facial Puffiness

Here's how to do it:

  1. Firstly, make knuckles with your two pointer fingers.
  2. Then, use firm strokes starting just underneath your cheekbones, and moving up to your temples. This will help get rid of bloating and puffiness in the mid-face.

Fake a Good Night's Sleep Tip 4: Reach for the Aloe Vera

To soothe and calm the skin after a rough night, reach for the aloe!

Aloe vera is a good ingredient because it calms, soothes and cools the skin. To enhance the cooling effect, you can even pop it in the fridge for 20 minutes before you use it.

Try Innisfree Aloe Revital Soothing Gel.

Fake a Good Night's Sleep Tip 5: Apply a Chilled Sheet Mask

Another trick is to pop a sheet mask in the fridge for 20 minutes and then apply that to your face. The cooling and moisturising effects are great for the skin and will feel soothing on tired skin.

Try Benton Aloe Soothing Mask

Fake a Good Night's Sleep Tip 6: Conceal The Evidence

Nothing is going to look as good as a good night’s sleep but a good concealer can help.

Korean beauty brand Skinfood makes a cult favouritedark circle eye concealerwith Norwegian salmon oil, to boost skin's immunity. It also assists to conceal dark spots, under eye marks and fine lines.
