Is this the future of pigmentation treatment? A new report has been published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology on the genes that determine face colour.
Human skin colour is largely determined by genetic factors, which is why Korean company LG Household & Healthcare recently conducted a study into 17,019 Korean women looking to identify the genetic variants associated with their facial skin colour.
They identified variants in three, one, and six genomic loci associated with facial skin colour.
The researchers are confident that this work will assist in bringing new products to the market to assist with pigmentation.
Current pigmentation reducing skin care products on the market work to reduce melanin production but this doesn’t help when the issue is genetic.
The plan is to use this research as a basis for customised skincare solutions, including developing a diagnostic platform that can even predict future pigmentation levels.
This is actually a really common question that a lot of people have. The first thing to know is that the skin under the arms is different compared to skin everywhere else on our bodies for a few reasons - it is quite delicate, which means it is very easily irritated. It also folds in on itself, which means that any products you do apply under your arms are absorbed more.
It's important that you don't irritate the under arms even further in trying to treat darkening of the skin.
Often, the cause is damage from razors. It can also be a sign of pre-diabetes.
My key tips to treat dark under arms are:
"Have been trialling this product for a few weeks and I cannot recommend it enough. I have noticed such a difference it how my skin looks and feels. My skin is glowing. I cannot wait to keep using this product. I will definitely be repurchasing."
"My first order of K-beauty products is likely one of the best things I've done for my skin. I wanted this BB cream in No.23 and it was out of stock, so in my eagerness I ordered No.27 just to try it. I'm in my low 60s and was looking for something with good coverage and not settle in creases. It was a little too dark for me so I diluted a tiny amount with my sunscreen and it's AMAZING! You only need a very small amount and the coverage stays neat all day without feeling weighed down. Thank you StyleStory :)"
