On Episode 207 of the Korean Beauty Show podcast, Lauren gives her honest review of the viral Korean makeup spatula and who she realistically thinks will enjoy using it. Plus, Lauren spoke with Cosmetics Design about K-Beauty brands pivoting away from China and towards new markets. More tourists than ever are coming to Korea for plastic surgery and dermatology.

Chemlinked recently reported on the proposal by Korea's Environement and Labor Committee to legislate on microplastics.
The Special Act on Microplastic Reduce and Control would place a range of obligations on government and business in relation to the manufacture and importation of microplastics.
Microplastics are being blamed for a series of health hazards and environmental problems. The authority is therefore planning to enact the law to establish a comprehensive countermeasure system which would include including surveys on the usage, emission, and reduction of microplastics.
I recently spoke with Cosmetics Design Asia about brands looking towards the Middle East as part of their pivot away from China. Laneige has already set up shop in the UAE and several GCC countries.
Beauty consumers in the Middle East have some of the largest spends per capita in the world so it is a natural pivot for companies looking to try new markets.

The Korea Herald reported on a surge in plastic surgery in Korea in 2022. The country reported a record number of 82,000 which has doubled since 2009.
Thai nationals topped the list of foreigners coming to Korea for plastic surgery at 24.2%, followed by those from Japan, China and the US.
Our customer asked:
"Hi I was wondering how Dr Ceuracle Vegan Kombucha Tea Essence product is for acne prone skin?"
I actually wouldn't recommend this one for acne prone skin. Instead, Dr Ceuracle's Tea Tree Essence is perfect. It's the kind of product you notice most when you stop using it in your routine. In general, I find it calms, soothes and strengthens my skin, and also keeps breakouts at bay.
Korean makeup spatulas are currently going viral. Beloved by Korea's best artists, they are ideal for giving you ultra-sheer makeup coverage that barely looks like you're wearing makeup.
They are also perfect to use to adjust the colour of liquid foundation, neutralize and evenly mix base makeup.
Here's my honest review:
✔️ I definitely use less product compared to a foundation brush or sponge when I'm using the spatula
✔️ It gives very sheer coverage (I think both of these points are linked)
✔️ It’s more hygienic than sponges for sure - you just wash it after every use.
✔️ You don’t need to change or replace it. Much better for the environment and cheaper in the long run.
On the downside:
❌ Because it offers such a sheer layer of product it’s much harder to build coverage.
❌ Doesn’t work across all makeup formulas - it’s much better with foundations then some thicker, cushion style products.
I think it’s probably suited to people who have pretty good skin to begin with - not people who need to cover acne scars, pimples or pigmentation
Banila Clean It Zero - 5 Stars
Good product
"Makes my skin looking clean, clear and younger."
Mizon Snail Repair Eye Cream - 4 stars
Decent eye cream
"Perfectly decent eye cream. A little sticky feeling on the skin because of the snail mucin, but most snail mucin products are. I have noticed a difference in the fine lines under my eyes, and I only use it at night because using it twice a day led to Milia. As I said, perfectly fine, but I’m just not in love with and am looking forward to trying something else when this runs out."
Kim Tae Hee and Lim Ji Yeon star in this thriller drama "Lies Hidden In My Garden", which is centred around the secrets of their husbands.
