Summer in Australia.

It’s all about brunches, barbies, beers and beaches. There’s no better time of the year to get together with friends and family for days in the great outdoors and cheeky weekends away.

If only our skin was as glad as we are to welcome the days of endless summer!

Caring for Aussie skin throughout summer requires a slightly different approach to other seasons (and countries), so we’ve put together a list of our favourite products, as well as the perfect Korean skincare routine for Aussie summer.

After a day of fun in the sun, you’ll want to make sure you remove all traces of your sunscreen (and makeup if you were wearing any).

The Korean two-step cleanse is perfect for this, starting with a quick oil cleanse. We love B-LAB I’m Sorry Just Cleansing Oil to break down even the most stubborn of sunscreens.

If you’re looking to add anti-aging benefits to your skincare routine, opt for d’Alba Piedmont’s Peptide No Sebum Mild Gel Cleanser, which is infused with coconut-oil derivatives, peptides and amino acids.

If you prefer a solid balm (or need something to pack in your overnight bag), we can’t go past Beauty of Joseon’s divine Radiance Cleansing Balm- it’s fungal acne safe, and contains no silicones, parabens, sulphates or alcohol. Did we mention it cleans away even the most stubborn of eye makeup effortlessly?

After you’re done removing your sunscreen and makeup, follow up with a foam cleanse to remove any other traces of dirt or debris.

If you’re heading on the road, don’t forget to pack JJ Young by Caolion’s Black Cleansing Stick, which comes in a handy, hygienic stick form that’s quick and easy to use.

If you prefer a cleanser that’s gentle with a side of soft foam, try APLB Sensitive Micro Cleansing Foam

Toning is essential to help reset skin after washing up and also helps your skin to properly absorb the next products you apply.

If the humidity has bought out any breakouts, blackheads or congestion, use your toner to help get it under control. We love iUNIK Tea Tree Relief Toner for oily and acne prone skin.

If you’re after an anti-aging formula that will also care for summer oiliness, d’Alba Piedmont’s Peptide No Sebum Balancing Toner is the perfect choice, blending white truffles with peptides and amino acids.

Essence will go to work on your skin at the cellular level, and with the additional stress from the sun, humidity and air-conditioning in summer, your skin will need a little extra TLC.

For a light, nourishing layer that soothes red, irritated and sensitive skin we love Tosowoong’s Green Tea Eco Brightening Essence.

For skin that has seen a little too much sun and heat, Benton’s cult-favourite High Content Snail Bee Essence will help repair the effects of sun exposure and photo-damage.

If you’re short on time (or space in your luggage!) and want to condense your toner, essence and serum into one easy step, try Soroci Repair Skin Softener. This beautifully gentle formula tones, repairs and hydrates, making your skin instantly softer and more touchable.

Summer is not the time to be lathering on heavy occlusive serums, so opt for light layers that are jam-packed with active ingredients and nourishing extracts.

To tackle any new pigmentation or sun spots that have cropped up thanks to your increased UV exposure, Vlancvere’s Power VC15 Ampoule will give you visible skin brightening results with its lifting, UV protection, anti-oxidant and pore care properties.

If you’ll be spending any time in-flight or in heavy air-conditioning, we’d go with d’Alba Piedmont’s First Spray Serum, a cult Korean product that went viral in Korea after it was revealed to be the secret behind Korean airline hostesses’ beautifully hydrated complexions in flight.

If the humidity has you looking like an oil slick and is causing new blemishes, Benton’s newly released Snail Bee Ultimate Serum is the perfect fix, treating damaged, acne-prone and rough skin perfectly without overdoing it on the hydration.

Moisturisers should be kept to a light layer unless you suffer from really dry skin.

Soroci’s Morning Drizzle Waterdrop Cream feels like it was made for the Aussie summer, with a feathery light formula that forms little water droplets on your skin, leaving it balanced, hydrated and without any stickiness. Despite the name, its perfect to use both night and day.

If you’ve totally cooked it at the beach and end up sunburnt, Benton’s gentle Aloe Soothing Propolis Gel will help coax skin back to life.

During summer, pores can often appear larger, particularly when they’re oily. If you’re in need of a multi-tasking pore perfecter that also doubles as an essence and toner, try JJ Young by Caolion Lab Pore Perfecting Multi Cream. The lightweight formula provides intense nourishment without feeling heavy, and also works to minimise redness and irritation without clogging pores.

If you’re experiencing extra breakouts or blotchiness, iUNIK’s light gel textured Centella Calming Gel Cream combines 70% Centella Asiatica with 10% tea tree leaf water to take care of both in a fast-acting formula.

Summer is the perfect time to shake up your routine to include treatments that target all of your key summer skin concerns. From enlarged pores, additional oiliness, congestion, pimples and pigmentation, some of our K-favourites are:

Clay Mask: Cosmetea’s divine Peppermint Tea Green Clay Mask looks good enough and works to tighten and improve uneven skin. It works to vacuum up any impurities and take care of large pores, uneven texture and dullness.

Pimple Patches: Don’t let pimples ruin your summer – if you see one rear its ugly head, whack a COSRX Pimple Patch over it. These handy patches suck the sebum and pus out of active pimples and also work to prevent acne scarring.

Sleeping Masks: If you’re in a dry climate, suffering from oily skin or are feeling leached by the air-conditioning, let Beauty of Joseon’s Revitalize Sleeping Mask repair your skin for you while you sleep. Formulated with ginseng, honey, orchid and blackbean, this light but lush sleeping mask creates bouncy, elastic skin with its unique memory-form structure.

Sheet Mask: If your summer is being marred by blackheads, congestion, sebum and impurities, whack a JJ Young by Caolion Lab Pore Charcoal Mask on. This unique 3D pore tightening mask dries to firmly fit your exact face shape, leaving skin visibly firmer, smoother and more hydrated.

Exfoliating Scrub: Slough away blackheads, whiteheads and the dead skin cells that clog pores and make skin look dull with Mizon’s Special Therapy Honey Black Sugar Mask. This multi-tasking scrub is formulated with 35% black sugar and is the perfect treat for summer skin.
