A Mother’s Korean Beauty Routine

A Mother’s Korean Beauty Routine

Mother’s Day is fast approaching and to celebrate we’re taking a look into the Korean Beauty Routines of Mums around Australia.

Catherine, a mother of 3, shares her Korean Beauty Routine and some of her favourite K-Beauty products with us.

My Key Skin Concerns

I grew up in the 60s and 70s in Australia when we used to lie out in the sun covered in baby oil to tan. Back then, we didn’t know about sunscreen or the dangers of sunbathing. A lifetime under the sun definitely took its toll on my skin, so now I need to take care of sun spots, wrinkles, fine lines and pigmentation. I’ve even had a few skin cancers cut out recently, which is becoming quite common for Australians my age.

My key concerns are to keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay and minimise the effects of my years in the sun.

My Morning Skincare Routine

My mornings are busy, so I keep my skincare routine as simple as possible:

Cleansing: I star with Tosowoong Enzyme Powder Wash. This cleanser is so gentle and comes in powder form, so it doubles as an exfoliator. It’s fantastic to travel with as it doesn’t spill or squirt everywhere!

Tone: As I’ve aged, my skin has become quite dry, so I like to hydrate it at every possible step of my routine. I use Etude House’s Collagen Toner to tone and hydrate.

Essence: I’ve been using snail-based Korean Beauty products for around 7 years now and I love Benton Snail Bee High Content Skin Essence. Since using it I really have noticed an improvement in my skin tone.

Sunscreen: Now that I know the dangers of the sun, I’m a big believer in sunscreen. At the moment, I’m using COSRX’s Aloe Sunscreen.

I follow up with my VDL Primer (to cover pigmentation) and apply Missha’s M Perfect Cover BB Cream in Shade 23.

My Night Skincare Routine

At night, I take the time to do a full skincare routine. I find it really relaxing to wind down from a long day and also take a little time for myself.

Cleanse: I use my Tosowoong’s Enzyme Powder Washagain at night, as well as a VDL Eye and Lipstick makeup remover, which I discovered last year in Korea.

Tone and Essence: I repeat the same products from my morning routine again at night.

Serum: I love Elizavecca Milky Piggy Galactomyces 97% Serum because the key ingredient, galactomyces (a form of yeast extract), tones, moisturises and targets wrinkles. It’s the same ingredient in SKII’s First Treatment Essence.

Night Cream: My dry skin drinks up Polatam’s Deep Moist Cream. This is such a great moisturiser for dry and mature skin types. I’ve even recommended it to my friends, as well as my sister-in-law who lives in Canberra.

Masks: I love trying new Korean masks! It’s impossible to pick a favourite. I use them before a big event or to relax in a hot bath with a glass of wine!
