Known for its ability to cover flaws, brighten skin and prevent oiliness, Skin79’s Pink BB Cream has been a hit for years.
Today, we’re giving you our Skin79 Hot Pink BB Cream Review of the upgraded BB Cream formula.
Skin79 Super Plus BB Cream Hot Pink.
There won’t be too many K-Beauty lovers who don’t recognise Skin79. These iconic BB Creams were among the first wave of Korean BB Creams to really take Korea by storm.
Skin79’s formulas were beloved for their wide variety of shades and skin-soothing formulations. They were closer to skincare than actual makeup but didn’t give up the benefits offered by typical makeup. Skin79’s popularity never dissipated, but with so many new BB Creams flooding the market, many K-Beauty fans went onto explore other newer formulas.
Skin79 has recently revamped their entire collection with new packaging and new formulas – but do they still deserve pride of place in a K-Beauty lover’s routine?
We put Skin79’s iconic Hot Pink BB Cream to the test!
Skin79 claims that its Pink BB Cream provides “mattifying coverage that won’t break down, so that you stay beautiful all day with powerful makeup coverage”.
It has three benefits in one – “brightening, wrinkle care and sun protection.”
The full ingredients list for the 2018 upgraded version of Skin79 Hot Pink BB Cream is:
“WATER, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, TITANIUM DIOXIDE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, TALC, DICAPRYLYL CARBONATE, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, DICAPRYLATE/DICAPRATE, ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE, CETYL PEG/PPG-10/1 DIMETHICONE, NIACINAMIDE, DIPENTAERYTHRITYL HEXAHYDROXYSTEARATE/HEXASTEARATE/HEXAROSI NATE, PRUNUS AMYGDALUS DULCIS (SWEET ALMOND) OIL, ISOEICOSANE, ZINC OXIDE, DIMETHICONE, OLYGLYCERYL-4 ISOSTEARATE, MAGNESIUM SULFATE, CYCLOMETHICONE, IRON OXIDES(CI 77492), DIMETHICONE/VINYL DIMETHICONE, DISTEARDIMONIUM HECTORITE, PHENOXYETHANOL, TRIHYDROXYSTEARIN, METHICONE, IRON OXIDES(CI 77491), IRON OXIDES(CI 77499), ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, PORTULACA OLERACEA EXTRACT, SILICA DIMETHYL SILYLATE, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, FRAGRANCE, ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE, ALUMINUM STEARATE, ADENOSINE, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, AMINOPROPYL DIMETHICONE, POLYMETHYLSILSESQUIOXANE, ROSA DAMASCENA FLOWER WATER, EUTERPE OLERACEA FRUIT EXTRACT, MALPIGHIA EMARGINATA (ACEROLA) FRUIT, TERMINALIA FERDINANDIANA FRUIT EXTRACT, BENZYL ALCOHOL and DEHYDROACETIC ACID”
Let’s start with Niacinamide. There’s 2% in this formula, which is an amount commonly contained in many Korean skincare products. Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3 that is excellent for brightening skin and suppressing the formation of melanin. It works to help even out the skin’s tone. The fact that such a high concentration is included in a makeup product is what makes Skin79’s formulas really quite unique.
There’s also 2% of sweet almond oil – this is a natural extract that’s jam-packed full of Vitamin E, which helps to protect skin and keep it soft and smooth.
Cyclopentasiloxane is in there as conditioner, delivery agent, lubricant and solvent. It has a unique fluidity that makes it easily spreadable, and forms a protective barrier on the skin. It can also fill in fine lines and wrinkles, giving the face a temporary “plump” look.
Adenosine is another good addition – a yeast-derived ingredient that soothes and restores skin.
To use Skin79, simply apply a small amount of Hot Pink BB Cream to your face and neck and blend it out. It works just as well when spreading it with your fingers as it does using a BB Cushion puff or a blender puff.
You don’t need to set it with powder, but if you prefer to, the cream sets very nicely with both loose and compact powders.
The first thing we noticed is how smooth the formula is, and how easy it is to spread. It’s a nice consistent formula to work with.
It’s very hygienic to use, coming in a compact, travel-friendly container with a push-button. It goes without saying that the packaging itself is gorgeous.
The coverage is very high coverage for a BB Cream, and works really well to even out any unevenness in your skin tone, from dullness, to pigmentation and even acne.
The overall look is makeup coverage with a very natural finish – you won’t look like you’ve caked the makeup on, but you will look pretty flawless.
This BB Cream won’t wash you out colour wise either – it runs slightly darker than other comparable Shade 21 BB Creams.
Although it is very hydrating (enough so even for dry skin to use), it also takes care of common concerns like oil and greasiness throughout the day.
If you’re looking for a top quality BB Cream that provides excellent coverage, cares for excess oil and prevents skin from becoming greasy through the day, this is a great fit.
The only con is that it comes in just the one shade – Light Beige – but in reality, it is slightly darker than other Light Beige BB Creams (i.e. Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream). It also doesn’t have the same grey tint to it as other BB Creams do.
There’s no doubt that Skin79 still deserves pride of place in your makeup bag.
