Fun fact about my skincare: I like a fairly simple routine and love a good face mask.
I grew up in the 70s in Australia when we used to lie out in the sun covered in baby oil to tan. Back then, we didn’t know about sunscreen or the dangers of sunbathing. A lifetime under the sun definitely took its toll on my skin though, and I suffered from sun spots, wrinkles, fine lines and pigmentation before I started using Korean Beauty products. I’ve even had to have a few skin cancers cut out recently, which is becoming increasingly common for Australians.
My key concerns are to keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay and minimise the effects of my years in the sun.
I don’t like an overly fussy routine in the morning. These days, my skincare routine consists of:
Cleansing: COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser. This product flies off the shelves at STYLE STORY and I know why; it’s very gentle. I recommend this product to my friends who have teenagers suffering from acne.
Essence: Benton Snail Bee High Content Skin Essence. Another STYLE STORY best-seller that works beautifully on mature skin. It brightens our skin tone, increases collagen production and targets wrinkles.
Sunscreen:
I follow up with my favourite CC Cream (to cover pigmentation) and apply Missha’s M Perfect Cover BB Creamin Shade 23.
Cleanse: I alternate between Tosowoong’s Enzyme Powder Wash and COSRX’s Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser.
Tone: Etude House’s Moistfull Collagen Toner is great for my dry skin because it contains collagen.
Essence: Benton Snail Bee High Content Skin Essence.
Serum: I really love Elizavecca Milky Piggy Galactomyces 97% Serumbecause it contains galactomyces (a form of yeast extract). This is the same ingredient in SKII’s much pricier products. It works well to tone, nourish, moisturise and reduce the signs of ageing.
Night Cream: Another great product for my aging skin is Mizon All In One Repair Snail Cream. Although the idea of snail cream was a turn off at first, after seeing the results on my skin with consistent years of use, I can’t recommend it enough.
Face Masks: I fell in love with WHEN Korea’s face masks at the K-Beauty Expo last year. I especially love When’s Special Package.I always use face masks before a big event, as they plump up my skin and help makeup glide on easier.
I am a regular visitor to Seoul and love seeing what the companies are coming up with. The Korean Government invited me to the K-Beauty Expo last year and we ended up curating a few of my favourite new finds, including WHEN Korea’s face masks and Thank You Farmer’srange of cruelty-free Korean beauty products.
One of the brands I discovered at last year’s K-Beauty Expo was natural beauty label Thank You Farmer
It’s been over 6 years since I first tried Korean products. I find they work so much better for my skin because they are soft, natural and gentle.
The names of some of the Korean products often make me laugh, but there’s nothing funny about the results I’ve seen using them!
