Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask Review

Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask Review

It’s an icon in the K-Beauty world and has remained one of the most popular Korean skincare products globally for years.
Today, we’re reviewing Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask to see why it still deserves a place in your skincare routine.

What Is It?

Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask

It’s from Innisfree’s best-selling Jeju Volcanic line, and as the name suggests, is a clay mask that clears out impurities from the pores.

It comes in a sturdy little 100ml jar with a screw-top lid that’s easy to travel with. The mask itself has no scent and comes with a grey, clay-like colour to it. With regular use (once to twice a week) the mask should easily last you 4 – 6 months.

What Does It Do?

The mask claims to cleanse, purify, tighten and tone the skin.

It works by drawing out oil, dirt and impurities and rebalancing the skin’s sebum levels, to leave it fresh, clean and smooth.

How Do You Use It?

It’s quite a versatile little product, and can be used several different ways:

1. As a spot treatment for acne;

2. To remove blackheads (instead of strip masks);

3. As a full face mask

As a blackhead removal mask, spread a thin layer over your T-Zone or just your nose, wait for it to dry and then wash it off. It helps to loosen any build up in your pores, removing sebum and blackheads.

Alternatively, you can use it as a traditional clay mask, spreading it over your entire face and washing it off after 15 minutes. The mask spreads on quite thick and will tighten on your face as it dries, however unlike other clay masks, the tightening feeling is not uncomfortable – you barely notice it until you go to wash the mask off.

What Results Will You Notice From Using It?

Immediately after using it, you’ll notice a reduction in sebum. The mask deep-cleanses and removes impurities, which leaves your pores visibly clearer and smoother. After doing this mask, it’s much easier to apply your makeup, as your skin has a smoother base to start.

With regular use (ideally once or twice a week), you’ll notice that the mask also assists to prevent skin trouble. It won’t cure hormonal acne, but it will help with the kinds of pimples that build up as a result of excessive oiliness and gunk in the skin.

What’s In It?

The full ingredients list includes:

Water, Butylene Glycol, Titanium Dioxide, Silica, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Trehalose, Volcanic Ash (Jeju volcanic cluster), Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Bentonite, Zinc Oxide (CI 77947), Polysorbate 60, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract, Opuntia Coccinellifera Fruit Extract, Orchid Extract, Camellia Japonica Leaf Extract, Cryptomeria Japonica Leaf Extract, Bambusa Vulgaris Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Kaolin, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, PVP, Dextrin, PEG-100 Stearate, Sorbitan Stearate, Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Lactic Acid, Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Iron Oxide (CI 7741)

The key ingredient is Jeju Volcanic Clay – a type of clay made from hardened lava that was formed after a volcanic explosion on Korea’s pristine Jeju Island. Jeju Island is a source of many of Innisfree’s ingredients, as it is famous for its volcanic formations, green tea and camellia. Volcanic Scoria itself is a natural and rare ingredient that has the capacity to absorb and remove sebum, wash away impurities and moisturise the skin.

Green Tea is another Jeju Island favourite, as it has potent anti-oxidant and skin soothing benefits. It can also assist with anti-aging concerns.

Citrus Peel Extract is another good ingredient that’s included – it’s an antibacterial, which assists with acne.

Thankfully, Jeju Pore Clay Mask is free from GMO, mineral oil, chemicals, alcohol, triclosan, benzophenone and parabens.

The box is also made from 100% recycled paper and the ink is printed from soy ink, making it environmentally friendly.

Final Verdict?

While it may not help with hormonal acne, Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask will help prevent the skin from getting overly oily, mattifying and clearing the complexion of sebum.

If your skin is feeling congested and lacklustre, using this mask once or twice a week will noticeably freshen your complexion.

But, if you're sensitive to any of the essential oils or additives, or have drier skin, try Subi's Holo Dream Brightening Pore Minimizing Mask. This has the added benefit of leaving your skin with a visibly brighter complexion as well.
