This is the new barrier-repairing serum from iUNIK, the Korean Beauty brand that’s being billed as ‘the new COSRX’. It’s a single-ingredient serum made of pure beta glucan. Beta glucan is an ingredient taken from the cell wall of mushrooms, and it promises to improve the skin’s barrier function.
What Is It?
Once rejected for being overly drying and messy to use, the new breed of facial soaps are suitable for a wide range of skin types and have plenty of special features that old soaps didn’t. In addition to soothing, natural and even cruelty-free formulas, some of the latest Korean soaps don’t change shape after use, others come in their own hygienic foaming nets (to contain any mess and help store them hygienically) and most of them can even be broken into smaller pieces so you only use a little at a time!

As the name suggests, it’s a K-Beauty serum that promises to nourish and hydrate skin.
What’s In It?
The key (and only!) ingredient is Beta Glucan, a natural extract derived from the cell wall of medicinal mushrooms. It’s an interesting ingredient, as it offers 20% more hydration than hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid (and its cousin sodium hyaluronate) are some of Korean Beauty’s favourite humectants. They are able to attract water to the skin and bind it there, making them excellent moisturisers.
Beta Glucan has those properties and antioxidant properties. It is also a skin-soothing agent, making it ideal for sensitive skin.
Literature also suggests that it is excellent for improving redness and skin sensitivity.
How Do You Use It?
Like most serums, this one is fairly easy to apply. You simply pop it on after your toner (or essence, if you use one) and pat it in to help it absorb quicker. Then, follow up with your moisturiser.
Despite the serum’s thick, viscous texture it absorbs into the skin quickly, without leaving any stickiness behind.
If you want to get fancy, you can even try mixing a few drops of serum in with your regular moisture. It’ll just give you an extra hydration boost.
Who Should Use It?
All skin types – it can be used by any of the skin types because it targets a range of skin conditions. It is good for dryness, oiliness, sensitivity, uneven skin texture, fine lines and acne.
People who don’t like scents – it’s fragrance free and doesn’t have a strong scent.
People who enjoy Hadalabo’s Premium Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid lotion – this serum has similar moisturising abilities. However, it offers additional benefits to improve the skin’s texture as well.
People who like bang for their buck – 50ml of product for under 50 bucks? Need we say more.
What Results Will You Notice When Using It?
After testing this serum out for over 6 weeks, we can confirm that it lives up to its claims. It moisturises skin, helps with dry patches and calms stressed skin.
They aren’t kidding when they say it offers better moisturising benefits than hyaluronic acid. We found that just two drops of this baby feels as though you’ve put a veil of moisture on your skin! In fact, this serum is so hydrating we reckon you could even skip your moisturiser if you’re feeling lazy.

We’ve been so impressed by everything we’ve tried from this new K-Beauty brand. This single-ingredient serum is no different. The company is clearly committed to minimalist, natural skincare and the ingredients lists are winners.
We can safely say that iUNIK Beta Glucan Serum is a solid addition to any skincare routine because it actively works to support the skin’s moisture barrier function.
