STYLE STORY FOUNDER ON FIRST 5000
STYLE STORY CEO and Founder Lauren Lee was recently featured on First 5000, in an article discussing the challenges she has faced working in South Korea and her tips for managing a team from overseas.
Since making the move to Seoul, South Korea in 2016, Lauren has juggled managing the STYLE STORY team on the ground in Australia with her work on the ground in Seoul. She spoke with First 5000 about how she brings the two STYLE STORY teams together so that the business operates smoothly despite the physical distance.
THE “STYLE STORY” STORY
STYLE STORY is unique in the K-Beauty world, being an Aussie owned and operated business with team members on the ground across both Australia and Korea.
After establishing STYLE STORY in her home town of Brisbane, and building a small local team of women there, Lauren made the move to Seoul in 2016 to cement STYLE STORY’s relationships with its Korean suppliers. In order to research the trends, and stay on top of the latest K-Beauty news , Lauren spent several years learning the Korean language so that she would be able to communicate in Korean in order to get access to the latest brands.
Having a team in both Australia and Korea places STYLE STORY at the forefront of Korean Beauty – but it has not been without it’s challenges.
Lauren spoke to First 5000 about some of the challenges she has faced running a small business in two countries. She spoke about the importance of building a team you can trust, establishing a proper chain of command, communicating to overcome the physical distance and utilitising technology, as well as how she and the STYLE STORY team incorporate each of these into their work days.
