Sleeping Masks or ‘Overnight Masks’ are one of our favourite skincare trends to come out of Korea. A huge leap forward from regular, old night creams, sleeping masks are a hybrid between a night cream and a sheet mask. And boy. do they give your skin a perfectly hydrated glow come morning!
Looking to perfectly prep your skin for one of our top-selling sleeping masks?
We've prepared a dreamy night-time skincare routine just for you!
Sleeping Mask Skincare Routine:Steps 1 & 2: The Double Cleanse
First, let’s start with a double cleanse. For those of you are new to K-Beauty here’s the rundown:
The Korean double cleanse method is a two-step process that involves washing your face with an oil-based cleanser, followed by a water-based one. This is particularly important to do at night as the two different cleansers are designed to remove makeup, dirt and build-up leaving you with cleaner, softer and smoother skin.
We love the Subi Beauty duo for our 1,2 step:
Subi Bare Skin Balm – This antioxidant rich balm contains Australian Lemon Myrtle and Sea Buckthorn oil which gently melts into the skin to remove the impurities of the day. Simply pop some on the spatula and pop onto a dry face. Gently massage your face for around 30 seconds and wash off with warm water.
Follow this up with the Subi Brightening Powder Cleanser – This lightweight and ultra-versatile cleanser foams up into a gentle, nourishing consistency that smooths the skin and brightens the complexion. Begin by pouring the powder onto your wet hands and rub together, once the cleanser foams up you can gently apply it to a damp face. After a mild exfoliation? Go light on the water and leave it a little grittier.
This best-seller is beloved for its minimal approach and, of course, its star ingredient Korean Mugwort. In traditional Korean medicine, Mugwort is known as a “warming” ingredient for the body and is used to improve circulation and relieve muscle pain. This vegan product is also rich in Vitamins A, C, niacin and other minerals.
Sleeping Mask Skincare Routine:Step 4: Essence
Essences are essential and we love the APLB Bee Pollen Propolis Moisturizing Essence – with star ingredients like Pollen Extract, Propolis Extract and Tea Tree Leaf Extract it’s no wonder that this gentle serum visibly restores and soothes damaged and sensitive skin. It also assists the skin to retain moisture so is perfect to use before applying a sleeping mask.
Sleeping Mask Skincare RoutineStep 5: Serum
Now that your skin is starting to feel AMAZING, let’s give if the gift of natural Noni! The APLB Noni Ampoule Serum offers lasting hydration and visibly plumps at all levels of the skin.
This ultra-pure serum combines Noni extract with liquorice, sea buckthorn, niacinamide and propanediol, which all work together to improve skin tone and soothe troubled skin.
Sleeping Mask RoutineStep 6: Moisturiser
Moving along to moisturiser!
We can’t get enough of Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream. This low-irritant, fragrance-free formula is fast absorbing, lightweight and a great option for your everyday moisturiser.
Step 7: Sleeping Mask
And finally let’s transport you to Cherry Blossom Season! Before you lay down to a perfect night’s sleep, apply Jelly Ko Cherry Blossom Sleeping Mask!
The antioxidants from the cherry blossom extract as well as the niacinamide work as you sleep so that you wake up with that beautiful plump, dewy skin you dreamed of the night before. Remember, a little goes a long way – you don’t need to lather your face in this mask. Instead, apply about a peanut or almond size amount.
If you are prone to dryness, live in a harsh environment or live in a country that has extreme winters, then sleeping masks are a very worthy investment for your skin. Coming into Australian summer is also a perfect time to nourish and look after our skin. This is because it inevitably gets more exposure to the blistering sun.
