BEAUTY OF JOSEON APRICOT PEELING GEL REVIEW
Today we’re reviewing Beauty of Joseon’s Apricot Peeling Gel, which takes ingredients used by women in Korea’s Joseon Dynasty and promises to remove dead skin to attract the skin’s hidden natural light.
WHAT IS IT?
It’s a light, non-irritating exfoliator that comes in a hygienic squeeze tub of 120ml. The packaging is very shelfie-worthy with Beauty of Joseon’s signature logo written in Hangeul (Korean script) and a light pink on the top.
The texture of the gel itself is like a thick jelly – it’s transparent in texture and almost colourless. Luckily, it doesn’t contain any microbeads, which are generally now accepted to be terrible for both the environment (and your skin!)
The ingredients in the gel are based off ancient Korean cleansing secrets used by women in the Joseon Dynasty. If you’re not familiar with the brand’s cult-favourite Dynasty Cream, then you may not be familiar with Beauty of Joseon – a K-Beauty company that recreate the skincare knowledge of their Korean ancestors using ingredients written in the “Kyuhab Chongseo” (a beauty guide compiled for women in Korea’s dynastic period, the Joseon dynasty). Beauty of Joseon’s products reinterpret traditional Korean beauty secrets using ancient ingredients with modern formulas.
WHAT DOES IT CLAIM TO DO?
Beauty of Joseon claims that Apricot Peeling Gel “creates a glow that attracts the skin’s hidden natural light.”
The gel works by removing dead skin cells, which occur naturally on the skin’s surface as the skin renews itself.
The problem is that although the skin sheds itself, dead cells don’t always remove themselves from the skin automatically. This can happen due to a range of external environmental factors, including heating, UV rays, stress, dust and even as a result of aging.
In order to properly remove these dead skin cells from the skin’s surface and let the newly regenerated skin come through, you sometimes need to give your skin a light buff and peel. This is where Apricot Peeling Gel comes into play!
WHAT’S IN IT?
The full ingredients list includes:
“Water, glycerin, steartrimonium methosulfate, alcohol denat, carbomer, cellulose, butylene glycol, prunus mume flower extract, prunus mume fruit extract, pyrus malus fruit extract, apricot fruit extract, prunus salicina fruit extract, phenoxyethanol, fragrance”
The star ingredient, apricot blossom, supplies moisture to make skin clear and bright.
Plum extract contains natural peeling ingredients that gently remove dirt and dead skin trapped on the skin’s surface. Plum is an ingredient that has been used in Korea for centuries. Taken from the blossoms of the plum in early spring, women in the Joseon Dynasty used it to help beautify their skin, even making records of its efficacy. Packed full of vitamins, minerals and calcium, it was known to improve the condition of the skin and complexion.
Apple extract is a popular ingredient in many exfoliants, as it is a natural AHA that contains organic acids and vitamin C that exfoliates the skin and provide cleansing benefits.
HOW DO YOU USE IT?
Start off with a clean, dry face and then take a small amount of the gel.
Spread it across your face, staying clear of the eyes and mouth. Massage it lightly into your skin for 1 – 2 minutes, until the product begins to pill. Once the pilling stops, wash your face with lukewarm water.
For best results, aim to use it 1 – 2 times a week.
WHO SHOULD USE IT?
- Anyone looking for a more gentle way to exfoliate
- Those who hate products with microbeads – this product contains no harsh grains or beads so your peel won’t sensitize your skin
- Anyone who likes manual exfoliators
WHO SHOULDN’T USE IT?
- Those who are sensitive to alcohol
- Those who don’t like scented products
WHAT RESULTS WILL YOU NOTICE?
The peel works beautifully to gently remove dead skin and dirt from the pores. It’s super satisfying to watch the product pilling up as well!
If you accidentally had any makeup left on your face, this will be hoovered up as you massage your skin.
The feeling after you wash your face is like a the side of an egg shell – soooooo smooth! It makes you want to keep touching your skin (although this is probably not a great idea…:p)
If you’re looking for a gentle peel to brighten and soften rough, dull skin (and one that doesn’t contain any sensitising grains or beads) then this is a great option. It leaves your skin feeling and looking visible smoother straight away.
The packaging also makes for a great shelfie too!
