Today there are two products in the ring battling it out for the title of best ceramide cream.

In the battle of the ceramide creams who’s gonna come out on top?

Dry, scaly, flaky and sore skin. It can crop up in winter, as a result of using the incorrect skincare products, from a damaged skin barrier or as a result of more serious skin conditions like eczema and dermatitis. Ceramide is one of our favourite ingredients for treating these skin conditions.

Ceramides are our skin’s natural protection barrier. They are composed of intercellular lipids that act as skin’s defense against environmental aggressors and maintain moisture levels. As we age, we lose ceramides, leading to a decrease in elasticity and moisture.

Today, some of K-Beauty’s favourite moisturising creams are battling out for title of “best” ceramide cream? Let’s meet the contestants: Dr Jart Ceramidin Cream vs COSRX Honey Ceramide Full Moisture Cream. These are both popular products on the market but how do they compare?

This cult favourite moisturising cream hardly needs an introduction. One of K-Beauty best-selling products worldwide, it claims to increase skin’s ability to restore itself, relieve itchiness and extreme dryness while repairing damaged skin.

Ceramidin Cream works by releasing its ingredients over time so you don’t have to reapply it. It’s perfect for frigid and windy Seoul winters, skin that has been damaged by air-conditioning, heating or even more serious conditions like dermatitis and eczema.

This cream contains several different types of ceramides, including Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP, Ceramide AS, Ceramide NS and Ceramide EOP. It also contains beneficial peptides, as well as humectants and occlusives like shea butter, hyaluronic acid, vegetable oil, cetearyl alcohol, more. The formula is also free from alcohol, sulfates, silicon and parabens.

COSRX claims that its Honey Ceramide Full Moisture Cream is “designed with all-natural nutrients to prevent moisture loss and protect the skin from dryness”.
Ceramide is noted for “rebuilding the skin’s damaged barrier and guarding against moisture loss” while Manuka Honey hydrates and restores suppleness to the skin on a cellular level. However, it is doubtful that COSRX’s ceramide cream actually contains enough ceramide to truly have these benefits on its own.
Ceramide is towards the bottom of the list of ingredients, meaning the percentage is not particularly high. It is far more likely that the cream’s glycerin, sunflower seed oil and beeswax are responsible for providing the noted moisturising benefits in the formula than the ceramide content. This is not to say that the cream is less effective but simply that the main cause of its efficacy isn’t ceramide.
One other thing to note about COSRX’s formula is that it isn’t fungal acne safe.

So who emerges as the winner in this battle of the ceramide creams?

For those with truly dry, flaky skin Dr Jart+ wins hands down.

Dr Jart Ceramidin™ Cream visibly improves rough skin, flakiness, tightness and soothes and moisturises chronic dry skin, allergies and itchiness.

For those with oiler, more acne prone skin types, the lightweight formula in COSRX’s Ceramide Full Moisture Cream makes it a solid option Even though the ceramide content in this cream is likely of questionable quantity or benefit, the mix of emollient and other humectants in the formula makes it a great non-greasy layer of hydration for those with oilier and combination skin types, as well as those who live in hot, humid climates like Australia and South East Asia.
